昔者，楚熊渠子夜行，见寝石，以为伏虎，

关弓而射之，灭矢饮羽。

下视，知石也。

却复射之，矢摧无迹。

【今译】

从前，西周时著名的射箭能手楚国的熊渠子夜里赶路。

看见一块卧石（一块大石头），熊渠子以为是卧着的大老虎，他把石头当成了卧伏的老虎，便弯弓射箭，一箭向老虎射去，箭全部射进石头里去了，矢都看不见了，连箭尾的羽毛都有一部分带进了石头里，

熊渠子走到跟前察看，仔细一看才知道是块石头。

他又退回到刚才的地方，重新再次射这块石头，箭折断了，石头上一点痕迹都没有。

Once LiangziXiong from Chu travelled at night.

He saw an crouching big stone and took it as a tiger. So he drew the bow and shot at the "tiger".

The arrow penetrated the stone, and almost disappeared in it.

After seeing this, he knew he had mistaken the stone for a tiger.

However, he drew his bow and shot again.

This time, the arrow was almost destroyed by the stone.

【原文】

叶公子高好龙，钩以写龙，凿以写龙，屋室雕文以写龙。于是天龙闻而下之，窥头于牖，施尾于堂。 叶公见之，弃而还走，失其魂魄，五色无主。是叶公非好龙也，好夫似龙而非龙者也。

【今译】

据说古代有个叶公，非常爱好龙，器物上画着龙，房屋上也刻着龙。真龙知道了，就到叶公家来，把头探进窗户。叶公一见，吓得面如土色，拔腿就跑。

【译文】

A Lord Ye of ancient times who was very fond of dragons adorned his whole palace - - beams，pillars，doors，windows and walls - - with drawings and carvings of them.

When a real dragon in heaven heard of this，it was deeply moved by his infatuation and paid him a visit.

When Lord Ye saw the real dragon thrusting in its head through the window of his study and its tail moving in his palace，he was frightened out of the house for his life.

clearly，what Lord Ye loved was not the real dragons.

【赏析】

这则故事本是孔子的弟子张讽刺鲁哀公的，鲁哀公口头上尊重人才，实际上傲视人才。
