Hou Yi, a skilled archer, shot down nine of the suns, saving the earth from destruction. As a reward, he was given an elixir of immortality. However, he did not want to leave his wife, Chang'e, so he hid the elixir at home. One day, while Hou Yi was away, a villain named Feng Meng broke into their house and tried to steal the elixir. To protect it, Chang'e swallowed the elixir and flew to the moon. Since then, people have worshipped Chang'e and celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival to commemorate her.
