The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday that is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar. This festival has a history of over 2,000 years and is widely celebrated in China and other East Asian countries. The festival is named after the dragon boat races that are held during this time, as well as the traditional food that is eaten, known as zongzi.
The Dragon Boat Festival has its origins in ancient China and is associated with the poet and statesman Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the state of Chu during the Warring States period. He was known for his patriotism and his love for his country. However, when the state of Qin invaded Chu, Qu Yuan was exiled and eventually committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River.
