The Dragon Boat Festival has its origins in ancient China and is associated with the poet and statesman Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the state of Chu during the Warring States period. He was known for his patriotism and his love for his country. However, when the state of Qin invaded Chu, Qu Yuan was exiled and eventually committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River.
